God’s heart for you is that you know Him. To God the word ‘know’ is more than an academic knowledge – it is more intimate. God’s heart for you is that you are very aware and comfortable with who He is, that he is involved in your life (because you are involved in his). To know God means you have a relationship with him – a relationship that is at heart level where you share your inner thoughts, fears, dreams and hopes, a relationship where there is love and acceptance during the highs and the lows. This is God’s heart for you.

This was my topic at the recent Mum Heart Conference (Australia). I shared about 3 gifts that God gives us (Love, Grace, Joy) but he gives us many gifts. Really, the opportunity to have a relationship with him, where he is involved in our life, and we in his, is a gift as well. It is a gift that he gives without conditions – no strings attached. It is freely given.

But we do have a choice – are we going to receive the gift, open it and use it.

When we turn to God, when we get to know him, he gives us:
* Salvation
* Peace
* Wisdom
* Courage
* Hope
* Joy
And many other gifts (this is by no means a complete list of the things that God gives us)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

God’s purpose for us is to walk this life with him and because of him. And he gives us what we need to do so.

But unless we receive and and open the gifts God gives us, our life will not be changed.

We might not open a gift given by a stranger but when we are in a relationship with God, when we know he wants the best for us, and his gifts are there to help us then we can open the gift with confidence.

How has God’s gifts affected your life?

As you go through this coming week remind yourself that he has given you:
* Grace – the enabling power of the Holy Spirit
* Joy – the ability to express his love in your life
* Love – He has loved you and from that abundance you can love others
* Wisdom – insight and understanding to walk in a way that honours God
* Hope – a different perspective, an eternal perspective based on knowing who God is
* Courage – knowing he is with you, you can step into your day – he is your strength.

My prayer for you today is that you will walk this week, letting God’s gifts, letting your relationship with Him be at the very center of all you do.

We encourage mums in a geographical area to gather together and build relationship and support with each other.  If you meet monthly you may find these reflective questions helpful to guide your discussion.
